CW-HDCD 1.0.1.0
Exact Audio Copy setup
Cole Williams Software Limited

OVERVIEW
========

CW-HDCD can be used as a User Defined Encoder / external processing tool in
Exact Audio Copy.

The tested EAC workflow decodes valid HDCD audio to 24-bit FLAC.

EAC CONFIGURATION
=================

Open:

  EAC -> Compression Options -> External Compression

Use the following settings:

  Use external program for compression:
    Enabled

  Parameter passing scheme:
    User Defined Encoder

  Use file extension:
    .flac

  Program, including path, used for compression:
    Point this to cw-hdcd.exe

Typical EAC Codecs installation:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Exact Audio Copy\Encoders\cw-hdcd.exe

  Additional command-line options:

    --eac --title "%title%" --artist "%artist%" --album "%albumtitle%" --album-artist "%albumartist%" --date "%year%" --track "%tracknr%" --tracktotal "%numtracks%" --genre "%genre%" "%source%" "%dest%"

  Bit rate:
    Not used / command-line controlled

  Delete WAV after compression:
    Enabled

  Use CRC check:
    Disabled

  Add ID3 tag:
    Disabled

  Check for external programs return code:
    Enabled

OUTPUT
======

The tested profile outputs 24-bit stereo FLAC.

FLAC output requires:

  libFLAC.dll

beside cw-hdcd.exe.

HDCD DETECTION
==============

CW-HDCD checks for valid HDCD signalling before normal decoding.

If no valid HDCD signalling is found, conversion stops and no output file is
created. Return-code checking lets EAC distinguish that case from a successful
HDCD conversion.

EAC INTEGRATION MODE
====================

--eac verifies that the requested destination was created successfully before
returning success to EAC.

TAGGING
=======

Leave EAC's separate "Add ID3 tag" option disabled.

The profile passes metadata directly to CW-HDCD for FLAC output.

PRESERVE-HDCD MODE
==================

--preserve-hdcd is a separate preservation workflow that keeps the original
16-bit HDCD-bearing PCM rather than reconstructing Peak Extend and Low-Level
Gain.

It is not the default EAC decoding profile.

RUNTIME FILES
=============

Recommended files:

  C:\Program Files (x86)\Exact Audio Copy\Encoders\cw-hdcd.exe
  C:\Program Files (x86)\Exact Audio Copy\Encoders\libFLAC.dll
